RICHY SRIRACHANIKORN is a PhD student of

the Social and Cultural Analysis program at Concordia University, Montreal.

He works with Dr. BART SIMON to learn about the experiences of people living in social withdrawal, in senior homes, and those who feel that they are "non-synchronous" or exiled from the present conditions of everyday life.

In particular, Richy looks at how nostalgia is used by institutions to define which certain things, activities, groups, and individuals belong to categories associated with time.

NOSTALGIA, however, can also motivate people to use time meaningfully and operate as a project to care for things and others. It is in the practice of nostalgia that may serve to counteract institutions using time as a method of social control.

Richy's research rests at the intersection of material culture, actor-network theory, nostalgia studies, sociology of time, self and subjectivity, and symbolic interactionism.
